Date: 2/19/2010
Time: 17:45 - 1955

Ryan and I headed out for Davenport Friday late afternoon around 5:30pm. We found the place although the sign had either rotted away that use to hang out by the road or vandals had destroyed it. We walked down a nicely maintained trail about 1/2 mile and came to 2 kiosks. Both had information from the past. Since there is, or should I say "was" an Indian mound out there, it was written that an archeologist many years ago had actually excavated part of the mound to find artifacts that would identify the age of the mound. According to their tests they estimated the mound to be around 1200 BC. Supposedly the archeologist didn't do much damage but later being such a desolate remote area the mound was later looted by vandals and others that were looking for their own artifacts, thus disturbing the mound. It is written that it was so bad that the mound actually turned into a crater. The forestry service attempted to rebuild the mound and now states that although there are no longer any artifacts there that there are bones still there. They now have a very lame 2 railed wooden fence surrounding the mound with a small sign attached saying closed to public. However and unfortunately, you can see where people have ignored and violated the area as there are recent foot prints going up the small mound.

Research concerning this area, in the 1800's it was a steamboat trading landing. The landing master was Thomas Cassidy Fillyaw 1830-1873. He was killed by the Seminole Indians in the area as legend has it that he was married to another Indian woman from a different Indian Tribe. He was buried on a bluff in the area of the landing by his 15 year old son. After this what was left of the family walked to Georgia where other relatives were. His grave site used to be maintained by the forestry service however from fear of vandals and looters they have now let the trail that led to it grow over to discourage anyone from finding the site. As a result, we did not locate it either but did notice some footpaths that appeared to be quite grown over but being dark we were not going to venture down a small trail overgrown with palmettos on both sides.

As a result, it appeared to be a pretty quiet area. We were the only 2 people there so that made the investigation a lot easier. We snapped several photos with our digital cameras while still daylight. Really thinking we had not gotten anything. A little after sunset, not quite dark, I was getting some quick "pings" on the K2. This actually happened many times, very quickly, and then nothing. I had the voice recorder and attempted to get some EVP's. Whatever was making the K2 ping gave me a sense of someone or something following us, perhaps curious as to what we were up to? Or perhaps to protect the area? There are no power lines or any electric sources in the area that should have given any emf readings. At one spot both Ryan and I felt it to be colder than the rest of the area, but nothing other than the feel of the cold air although we snapped a few photos in the area and did have the k2 with us.

We later placed the k2 and the digital voice recorder on a post holding the fence surrounding the mound. We asked questions and asked for any signs of presence. At one point, Ryan thought he heard someone scream but said it sounded like it was far off in the distance. We left the k2 and voice recorder on the post still recording and walked away from the area. Later upon our return we decided to call it a night. I thought I heard some leaves crunching across the clearing and some possible footsteps, but this is the forest and lots of animals out here. We left and was to exhausted to review anything friday night.

Saturday I reviewed both digital cameras. We of course caught numerous orbs. In the daylight 2 photos show a mist stretching up off the ground in 2 different locations. One being on top of the Indian mound. This was far enough from the river that there would have been no steam or anything associated with the river flow. Plus the rest of the picture around and beyond the mist was clear.

We did locate some orbs of different colors, greens and some light oranges. In one photo I took of Ryan standing near the Indian mound, there is a small mist up almost to the trees. It is not a typical "orb" as it was a splotchy looking mist from viewing the picture. However upon zooming in, you can clearly make out a man's face and full facial features even hair. This face is very similar to one of the people that use to work at the landing by the last name of Moore and there was a picture of him on one of the kiosks. There are also 2 other photo's that show a side profile of a face although not as clearly as the mist and another one of a possible face that appears to be peering at us through some palmetto branches.

Ryan reviewed the digital recorder. He found a few "clicking" sounds which could really be anything including us. But something interesting he picked up once we left the recorder on the fence post was worth the trip. It is so quiet before and even after what he found and you can't hear us as we are to far away, but later you do hear us as we come back to gather our equipment. What he found was what sounded like a musical chanting, only of voices, no music. You can not make out any words but you can definitely make out a rhythm and it only lasts not even for 5 seconds. There was no breeze at all and nothing else that should have made that sort of recording.

My conclusion to this preliminary investigation is that there may possibly be something going on, but I did not get the feeling that whatever it was had any desire to interact. There are also signs up now that no camping is allowed so if we were to spend the night out there I would assume we would be ok as long as we didn't pitch a tent or have a sleeping bag. Smile

At this point in time, it is undecided if we will or will not return for further investigation.

I'm so very sorry I couldn't have been there!

When you talk about "orbs", what do you mean, exactly? Please don't get me wrong, I've seen so much debunking of orbs as dust and insects, that I'm no longer certain what people are describing.

I find the mists much more interesting, as I have also occaisionally encountered things like that--in person as well as photographically.

The "majority" of the orbs, imho, are either insects or dust of some sort. Now the brighter colored ones with orange and green hues? I sort of raise my eyebrows to that one but nothing shown when they are enhanced of blown up. So I can't say they are anything of the paranormal. Now the mist and the face in the mist, that was worth the trip. We didn't see it with the naked eye. As I had mentioned, we really didn't think we had caught anything at all other than the unexplained k2 spikes like something was following us and then jumping out of the when we tried to follow it. It was fast too. Once it looked like we had a brief trail but it vanished quickly. So no explanation as to that. My opinion of orbs is somewhat on the skeptical side. So I don't normally make a big deal out of them unless we are actually getting emf readings or evp's during the same time. The orbs that streak fast with color are definitely of interest and we have encountered a few of them before. I am hoping to upgrade our camera equipment here shortly and am hoping for better clarity in doing so. But I do always check out each orb we get in a picture but it usually doesn't pan out to be anything I can explain as paranormal.

We went with Ocala Ghost Walks over the weekend for a tour of the haunted areas in downtown Ocala. It was pretty cold out, about 48 and the wind was blowing some so it made it feel even colder. We had so many orbs in almost every picture (almost, not all) that I was beginning to wonder if our cameras were just plain malfunctioning. Again, none of the orbs we caught panned out to show anything but one person did capture a green orb with a very distinct face in it. This was just after the seven sisters Inn. But other than that not much was caught. But the tour was quite interesting and was fun to check out all the old homesteads of long ago. Smile
